Description
Current Lot Pair of Victorian Gilt Coolers by Robert Gray A superbly made and presented pair of wine coolers from Glasgow's finest silversmith, in neo-Baroque taste. The engraved cartouches read: "Presented to James Lumsden Esquire of Yoker Lodge by a number of political friends in testimony of their approbation of his zealous and able exertions in the cause of reform. Glasgow MDCCCXLI (1841)." The Reform movement, active on governmental, private and religious fronts, was in full operation and registering successes by 1841, including the abolition of slavery and child labor and vast improvements in the living and working conditions of British citizens, particularly in urban areas. The coolers are presented in superb original condition ready for use with original plated liners and detachable rims. Clearly marked on both elements. Height 11". Weight 125 oz.
